The Floyd Memorial Library in Greenport, NY seeks a part-time Archivist to oversee the Library’s Local History Collection.  The ideal candidate should be well-versed in modern archives standards and has an interest in the history of Greenport, East Marion, and Orient.  This position reports to the Library Director. 

Essential Functions:

  • Participate in the development and organization of the Local History Collection, including (but not limited to) accessioning, organizing, processing, and digitizing archival material
  • Contribute to efforts to highlight the collection through community outreach, researching and writing newsletter entries, website blog posts, and social media content
  • Contribute to Library programs, exhibits, or special projects involving local history
  • Provide professional and friendly service to patrons seeking local history information, in-person, over the phone, or via email.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Demonstrated interest and proficiency in technology, especially digitization of archival materials
  • Ability to work independently, follow through with projects, and meet deadlines
  • Be a team player, be flexible, and be willing to work with all Library departments

Minimum experience and training:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; ALA-Accredited Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science (MLS or MLIS) preferred; Archival certificate a plus

Minimum Starting Salary:

  • $30.00/hr., 15-20 hrs./week, flexible schedule
