The Board of Trustees of the Fulton Public Library are seeking a full-time Library Director.

 

About Fulton Public Library:

 

The Fulton Public Library serves the city of Fulton, NY, and is part of the North Country Library system. The current building was completed in 1906 and is one of 107 Carnegie libraries in New York State. In addition to traditional materials and services, the library offers digital resources like free Wi-Fi and access to comprehensive databases. The library has embraced deeper community involvement by offering innovative services, such as hosting donation-driven “Comfort Cabinet” campaigns and enabling patrons to borrow YMCA memberships and local museum passes, affirming its role not only as a repository of knowledge but also as a vibrant community hub.

 

Position Description:

 

This position serves as manager of library operations and building maintenance and works closely with the Board of Trustees.

 

This is an administrative position involving responsibility for all library functions and facilities. The work involves carrying out board policy as determined by the Fulton Public Library Board of Trustees. Direct supervision is exercised over the work of other library personnel.

 

Description of Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership for all library operations, services, collections, and
  • Develop and administer the annual budget and oversee library
  • Manage library facilities, maintenance, and capital improvement
  • Recruit, supervise, develop, and evaluate library
  • Plan and evaluate library services, programs, and community partnerships in relation to the changing needs of our
  • Prepare reports and recommendations for the Board of Trustees and oversee required state reporting including the Annual Report for
  • Recommends and administers
  • Develop public relation initiatives and represent the library within the
  • Pursue grant opportunities and administer awarded
  • Maintain knowledge of current library trends, technologies, and best
  • Provide public service, including reference assistance, collection development, and other library duties as

  • Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an American Library

Association accredited program.

  • Minimum of 5 years of satisfactory professional library
  • Eligibility for New York State Public Librarian’s Professional certification at time of

application for appointment; possession of certificate at time of appointment.

  • Demonstrated 3 years supervisory experience
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and communication
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff, trustees, and the
  • Knowledge of library administrative practices, techniques, materials, and
  • Able to lift and maneuver up to 25

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience successfully managing complex and dynamic facilities and operations projects.
  • Experience managing library facilities and capital
  • Experience with community engagement and strategic
  • Initiative in making constructive suggestions for improvements in services and collections.

 

Hours:

40 hours/week including a monthly evening board meeting. Evening and weekend hours may be required based on committee meetings and library events schedule and needs.

 

Salary Range:

$55,000 - $65,000 commensurate with experience. This is a Civil Service position. Benefits include: NYS ERS Retirement System, health insurance, paid vacation and holidays, sick leave, and professional development support.
