Position Title: Fulton Public Library Teen & Outreach Coordinator

Classification: Full-Time (35 hours/week, including evenings and Saturdays)

Reports To: Library Director

Position Overview

The Fulton Public Library is seeking an energetic, creative, and community-minded professional to serve as our Teen & Outreach Coordinator. This dynamic role splits focus between two critical areas: elevating our services for local teenagers (ages 12–18) and taking the library's resources directly out into the Fulton community.

A cornerstone of this position is cultivating strong partnerships with local school districts and community groups. The Coordinator will drive targeted outreach efforts to underserved populations, ensuring that innovative library programming and resources are accessible to teens, families and elderly residents at area senior centers.

Responsibilities 

Teen Services & Media Initiatives

• Teen Advisory Board: Establish, mentor, and facilitate a dynamic Teen Advisory Board (TAB) to give local youth a voice in shaping the library's future. The Coordinator will recruit middle and high school students, lead regular meetings, and empower board members to advocate for youth needs, co-design library programs, and assist with collection development. Through TAB, the Coordinator will foster leadership skills, community service opportunities, and a strong sense of ownership among Fulton’s teenage
• Program Development: Design, implement, and evaluate innovative, literature-based, and recreational programming specifically tailored for middle and high school students.
• Collection Management: Assist in curating, promoting, and weeding the Young Adult (YA) fiction, graphic novel, and non-fiction collections.
• Social Media & Website: Ensure that the FPL website is up to date and manage our social media accounts by adding content and responding to posts and messages.
• Launch & Manage the Teen Podcast: Oversee the creation, production, and distribution of a new library-sponsored teen podcast. Mentor youth in planning episodes, audio engineering, interviewing, and editing, turning the project into a collaborative digital literacy program.

Community Outreach & School Collaboration

• School District Partnership: Act as the primary liaison to local school districts, collaborating closely with School Library Media Specialists, teachers, and administrators to align public library initiatives with K–12 literacy and curriculum goals.
• In-School Engagement: Coordinate and conduct school visits, book talks, and classroom presentations to promote summer reading programs, digital resources (such as Mango Languages), and library card sign-ups.
• Community Presence: Represent the library at community festivals, farmers' markets, and local youth advocacy networks to bring library services to underserved populations.

Digital Citizenship & Technology Instruction

• Facilitate workshops for teens on digital literacy, internet safety, and the ethical use of emerging technologies (including AI tools).
• Integrate STEM/STEAM components into teen programming and outreach kits.

Qualifications & Skills

Required:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree required.
• Experience: Minimum of 1–2 years working with teens or young adults in a library, school, or community non-profit setting.
• Technical Proficiency: Comfort with audio recording equipment, digital editing software (e.g., Audacity, GarageBand), Microsoft Office, Canva, and social media
• Communication: Exceptional interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to engage authentically with teenagers, parents, educators, and community stakeholders.

Desired Traits:

• A strong understanding of adolescent development, YA literature trends, and digital citizenship competencies.
• Experience in community outreach and managing community-focused projects is a plus.
• A collaborative spirit and a sense of humor—working with teens requires flexibility and enthusiasm!

Salary & Benefits

• Salary Range: $40,000 annually (commensurate with experience).
