Youth Services Library Aide: The Howland Public Library in Beacon, NY is seeking a Youth Services Library Aide. We are looking for candidates who are passionate about customer service, enjoy working with children and teens, and are comfortable using new technology. This position is 20 hours per week. 

Responsibilities include: 

  • Assisting patrons with orientation to library services,Helping youth/caregivers use library resources, including the catalog, reference materials, pamphlets, and magazines, Assisting in the preparation and setup of programs, displays, and bulletin boards, Providing support with library programs under the supervision of the Youth Services Librarian, Training patrons on common library software, online resources, and internet services, Issuing/collecting library materials/equipment and instructing youth/caregivers in their use, Shelving and organizing library materials, Maintaining statistics under the supervision of the Youth Services Librarian, Performing minor repairs on library materials and equipment, Participating in annual inventory and shelf reading, Supervising and training library pages when assigned, Assisting in the supervision of the library in the absence of a librarian, Contributing to promotional materials such as flyers, social media content, and other items. 

Schedule and Requirements: Flexibility is a plus, with opportunities for additional hours during special events or when coverage is needed. Limited evening hours are available. Weekend availability, especially Saturdays, is required. 

  • High school diploma required 
  • Experience working with children and young adults preferred 
  • Scheduling will be determined with the successful candidate based on the attached coverage needs. 

Compensation and Benefits
