Job Description:

 

LIBRARY DIRECTOR

 

DEPARTMENT: Learning Commons - Library

 

APPOINTMENT: 12-Month Faculty

 

REPORTS TO: Dean of Academic Services

 

SUMMARY:

 

The Learning Commons Director, Library provides overall library leadership by aligning services, resources, facilities and collections with the College's mission, vision, values, strategic plan and policies. The position will lead the administration, operation, and development of the library functional area including but not limited to budget, instructional offerings, personnel, facilities, services and collection development to support both physical and online/remote environments.

 

GENERAL FUNCTIONS:

 

  • Oversee recruitment, supervision and professional development of all library employees.
  • Oversee library assessment measures for all areas of library operations. Share library assessment data with • Chairs and other faculty in support of students' academic success.
  • Oversee, participate in and support the curricular needs of the College, and cultivate collaboration between the library and instructional faculty with a focus on the academic needs of the institution.
  • In collaboration with library faculty and staff, promote the Library's resources, services, collections and facilities to all constituencies.
  • Develop, monitor, and administer the budget for the Library, promoting responsible fiscal stewardship of library resources to support, implement and sustain library initiatives.
  • Oversee user-oriented services in collaboration with library faculty, ensuring that on-campus and remote services support the intended outcomes of the library, academic programs and professional standards.
  • Represent Cayuga Community College in local, state, and national library organizations.
  • Work in collaboration with the Learning Commons - Academic Support Director to align services towards supporting students, faculty and programs.
  • Participate in required faculty responsibilities: Serve on various college committees, advise students, etc..
  • Provide administrative reports as required by the College, SUNY and NYSED and other entities.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

 

Requirements:

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Master's degree in library and information science (from an A.L.A. - accredited school) OR related field.
  • Cayuga Community College accepts only degree credentials from accredited institutions recognized by the United States Secretary of Education and the New York State Department of Education.
  • Strong leadership, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills with an ability to promote positive relationships.
  • Experience in academic library setting or equivalent work experience in higher education.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Significant and varied experience collaborating with faculty, college students, staff and/or community members to achieve goals.
  • Experience with integrated library management systems.
  • Familiarity with applicable federal and state laws and regulations regarding libraries.
