The George F. Johnson Memorial Library is a vibrant community hub dedicated to providing exceptional library services in Endicott, NY. As a municipal public library and member of the Four County Library System, we strive to create an inclusive environment where everyone can learn and thrive. Our Adult Services Department offers a diverse collection, public computing resources, and programs focused on reading, writing, artistic, digital, media, and civic literacy. Led by the Head of Adult Services, the department provides innovative and traditional programs tailored to the needs of our diverse adult community.

Position Overview

The library seeks a motivated, service-oriented librarian with a passion for engaging and inspiring adults. Reporting to the Head of Adult Services, the Adult Services Librarian will provide essential library services, including reference assistance, reader’s advisory, programming, and technology literacy support. The position primarily involves serving patrons at the Adult Services Information Desk, while also contributing to program development, collection management, outreach efforts, and technology training in the library’s Tech Center.

Preferred Qualifications

Successful candidates will demonstrate strong problem-solving, organization, technology proficiency, and collaboration skills. Excellent interpersonal and customer service abilities are essential, along with a deep knowledge of literature, current events, and resources relevant to adult patrons.

Key Responsibilities

  • Public Service & Reference Assistance

    • Assist patrons with reference inquiries, technology troubleshooting, and placing requests or holds on materials in person, via phone, and online chat.

    • Provide reader’s advisory services through personalized recommendations, displays, book lists, and newsletters.

  • Programming & Outreach

    • Develop and lead programs for adults, including book discussions, author talks, career and technology workshops, lifelong learning events, and cultural or recreational programs.

    • Promote library services through outreach initiatives, forging connections with community organizations and local businesses.

  • Marketing & Promotion

    • Design marketing materials, including flyers and graphics, to promote library events and services using tools such as Canva.

    • Create engaging social media content to reach and inform the community.

  • Technology Training & Digital Literacy

    • Provide one-on-one and group technology training at the Information Desk and in the Tech Center, covering topics such as internet navigation, digital literacy, eBooks, job applications, and software use.

    • Stay informed about emerging technology trends and their applications in library services.

  • Collection Development

    • Assist with selecting and recommending materials to ensure the library’s collection meets the diverse needs and interests of adult patrons.
