The Pine Plains Free Library is seeking a part-time Youth Programmer to oversee youth library programs and services for children between toddlers and age nineteen (19). Under general supervision of the Library Director, the candidate will be responsible for managing current youth programs and helping to develop future ones.

The ideal candidate will enjoy working with kids and teens of all abilities, be a creative thinker, have excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail, ability to work well independently and with others, and be able to multi-task when needed.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing the Kids Club, an after-school program for approximately 12 elementary students four days a week during the school year, with the assistance of a dedicated part-time employee. Plan activities and advise on purchases. Must be comfortable interacting with children of all abilities.
  • Supervising a part-time Youth Program employee.
  • Assisting with creating, planning, and coordinating youth and teen programs including budgeting, booking, scheduling, registration, outreach, and marketing.
  • Coordinating the Library’s participation with the Pine Plains Summer Camp to provide crafts, professional entertainment, and Library visits for approximately 80 weekly campers.
  • Keeping program statistics, maintaining and organizing Children’s Room and supply closet.
  • Helping maintain the Library’s marketing, social media presence, and calendar of events.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills with children, including those with special needs.
  • Must possess excellent customer service skills when interacting with patrons.
  • Efficient project management skills.
  • Proficiency in, or willingness to learn, Microsoft Word, Excel, Monday, and Canva, and the use of social media as a promotional tool.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma.
  • Experience working with youth, including those with special needs.
  • Must pass a criminal background screening.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Work is performed in a library setting and in close proximity to other workers and volunteers. Physical demands are moderate, consisting primarily of sitting, standing, walking, lifting, talking, and carrying moderately heavy boxes of materials up to 50 lbs. and/or using a cart to transport boxes.

Hours and Wage:

This position is for 15-20 hours a week with some Saturdays required. Ability to speak Spanish a strong plus. Wage is $18/hour. Part-time employees earn Paid Time Off after the first 90 days of employment.
