Part-Time Librarian I
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Are you a friendly, creative youth services librarian eager to make an impact? The East Greenbush Community Library invites you to join our dynamic, welcoming team dedicated to serving children, teens, and caregivers. This position is all about fostering a supportive, inspiring space that values diversity, equity, and inclusion. As a core part of our team, you’ll work alongside colleagues across the library to develop engaging programs, collections, and services for children and families. Though focused on children, this role offers opportunities to collaborate on library-wide initiatives and connect with community members of all ages.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide reference and readers’ advisory assistance to children, teens, and caregivers.
- Contribute to collection development by selecting materials and weeding to keep collections fresh, relevant, and exciting.
- Stay on top of trends in children’s literature, youth development, and library technologies to elevate service quality and programming.
- Develop inviting spaces and creative programs (including storytimes) inside and outside the library that engage and inspire children and families.
- Collaborate with colleagues to deliver initiatives and projects that enhance library services for the entire community.

COMPENSATION: Hourly Rate: $25.71-$32.14 per hour (step schedule, based on experience)
ASSIGNMENT: Thursday evenings, 5-8pm, and two Saturdays per month, 10am – 2pm.
REPORTS TO: Head of Youth & Family Services

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- MLS from an ALA-accredited library school
- New York State Public Library Professional Certificate
- Must be eligible for a provisional appointment as a Librarian I under Rensselaer County Civil Service guidelines
