Part Time Library Director - Philmont Public Library

The Philmont Public Library, located in the center of Columbia County, services a population of about 1,300. The Library Director is responsible for the operations of the library and development and implementation of its services and programs. Candidate qualifications include excellent skills in communications and customer service. Hours: part-time position, (25-30 hours/week). Salary: $30,000 - $35,000/year. Philmont Public Library seeks a Library Director. The Philmont Public Library is a municipal library and member of the Mid-Hudson Library System. We are looking for a dynamic professional who demonstrates vision for library service for the Village of Philmont which is located in the center of Columbia County with a population size of approximately 1,300 residents. 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Collection Development 

  • Develop and manage the collection ensuring it is diverse, current, and meets the needs of

the community.

Programs and Community Engagement

  • Identify and develop programs for patrons of all ages
  • Create marketing materials and handle outreach strategies for all.

Administration/ Management

  • Attend regular board and committee meetings
  • Recommend and help develop library policies. 
  • Develop and manage a budget.
  • Identify and apply for grants.
  • Continue open communication between the Library and Village trustee boards.
  • Encourage continuing training for current and future staff
  • Conduct annual evaluations

Facilities:

  • Oversee maintenance of the building and grounds.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Commitment to excellent customer service skills and public service orientation.
  • Strong initiative, creativity, flexibility, and a positive attitude.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Aptitude with technology including ILS catalog, Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, website software, social media, etc.
  • Commitment to learning new skills through a variety of available trainings.
  • Experience working in libraries is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher preferred.

 

SALARY

This is a part-time position with a salary range of $30,000 - $35,000 for 25-30 hrs/week.
