Youth Services Librarian (Full Time)

Utica Public Library is looking to hire a new member in its Youth Services Department.
Prospective candidates should enjoy working with a diverse population and delivering high
quality customer service with tact, courtesy and professionalism to all users of the library – both
on-site and in the community. The Youth Services Librarian will provide engaging and inclusive
programming, as well as outreach to children and adults in our community.

This position reports to the Director of Youth Services.

POSITION: Librarian (Full Time) – Youth Services Department

SPECIFIC DUTIES (illustrative):
 Plan and implement programs for ages 0-17.
 Collection development, maintenance, and displays to promote materials.
 Collaborate with local schools, organizations, and other area libraries to offer programs
and services.
 Outreach opportunities such as tabling at events, monthly story times at community
organizations and partners.
 Provide reference services and readers advisory to patrons, assist patrons with use of
technology, post on social media about youth services.
 Participation in workshops, seminars, and continuing education to enhance job skills, as
appropriate; Serve on committees and working groups as necessary
 Other duties as assigned

WORK SCHEDULE:
37.5 hours per week; combination of daytime, evening and Saturday hours

SALARY RANGE (Commensurate with Experience): $22.06-$24.75/hr.; $43,000-$48,000

QUALIFICATIONS:
MLS or equivalent from an ALA Accredited Library School (required)
NYS Public Librarian’s Certificate (required)
Commitment to customer-centered, quality public library service
Excellent communication skills
Attention to detail, and ability to work both independently and with others
